Fondata nel 1997, la rivista tedesca MARE ha pubblicato storie sugli oceani e i mari del mondo, con lo stile unico ed inconfondibile che la contraddistingue. Da questi reportage dedicati a luoghi lontani è sorta una collezione di fotografie che non cessa di accrescersi. I temi non sono circoscritti alla vita subacquea o emersa. Al centro delle storie, raccontate nell’arco di più di dieci anni, c’è infatti il mare e l’influenza che esso esercita sui popoli che ne vivono a contatto, nel senso più ampio. Nikolaus Gelpke, di origine svizzera, è fondatore, direttore ed editore di MARE. Sin dagli esordi della rivista, Gelpke ha messo insieme negli anni una collezione di fotografie di grande formato che rappresenta il meglio dei reportage pubblicati da MARE. My Favorites è stata esposta in tutta la Germania ed ora, per la prima volta, una selezione della collezione di Gelpke varcherà i confini nazionali per essere messa in mostra in Italia presso la 10b Photography Gallery. Le fotografie esposte sono tratte da una selezione di reportage che evidenzia lo stile personale di una schiera di famosi fotografi internazionali: Jodi Bieber, Juan Manuel Castro Prieto, Joachim Ladefoged, Russell Liebman, Heike Ollertz, Martin Parr, Paolo Pellegrin, Gueorgui Pinkhassov, Andrew Testa, Robert Voit. La selezione di immagini verrà accompagnata da testi realizzati dagli autori delle rispettive storie.

Founded in 1997, the German magazine MARE has published stories about the oceans and seas of the world, with the unique and unmistakable style that distinguishes it. From these reports dedicated to distant places, a collection of photographs has arisen that does not cease to grow. The themes are not limited to underwater or emergent life. At the center of the stories, told over more than ten years, there is in fact the sea and its influence on the peoples who live in contact with it, in the broadest sense. Nikolaus Gelpke, of Swiss origin, is the founder, director and publisher of MARE. ever since the beginning of the magazine, Gelpke has put together over the years a collection of large-format photographs that represents the best of the reports published by MARE.

My Favorites has been exhibited throughout Germany and now, for the first time, a selection from the Gelpke collection will cross national borders to be put on display in Italy at the 10b Photography Gallery. The photographs on display are taken from a selection of reportages that highlight the style personal of a group of famous international photographers: Jodi Bieber, Juan Manuel Castro Prieto, Joachim Ladefoged, Russell Liebman, Heike Ollertz, Martin Parr, Paul Pellegrin, Gueorgui Pinkhassov, Andrew Testa, Robert Voit. The selection of images will be accompanied by texts made by the authors of respective stories.
